About Us
The 14th annual Folsom Gourd & Arts Festival will be held at Folsom City Park on September 27-28, 2008. Over 150 artists will sell their exquisite artwork during the 2-day event. Held under beautiful, mature trees, the festival includes demonstrations, entertainment, food... and, of course, gourds! Learn the art of gourd art through the many classes available
During both days of the event, well-known artists will demonstrate gourd art techniques including cutting, dying, and embellishing gourds. Leiser's Gourd Farm will be on hand with thousands of gourds for sale, and art suppliers will have the latest tools, books, and materials. Visitors will find everything from handmade brooms to wearable art, and from fine jewelry to rustic pottery.
Call to Artists:
The event is open to artists of all mediums, including, but not limited to, gourd art, painting, printmaking, sculpture, drawings, photography, fiber arts, glass, pottery, jewelry, and mixed media.
Entertainment
With a new entertainment lineup, there's something for everyone! Be sure to bring (or buy) your gourd drums so you can play along! Sambandha and Tribal Calling will provide world music from the center of the park. Mamadou & Vanessa will return this year to perform both Saturday and Sunday . Mamadou, a native of Mali, West Africa, performs on a unique 6-stringed gourd instrument, the doson'goni (hunter's harp).
Enjoy sounds as diverse as the art around you as you stroll beneath the trees. Whether it's the pastel sounds of Motoshi Kosako's harp or the earthy tones of Mamadou's doson'goni, pleasant sounds will be wafting through the park, creating a leisurely atmosphere - perfect for meandering through the park and choosing that perfect piece of art.
